WHEELCHAIR NEWS

"Getting back up" is perhaps the most gut wrenching thing a disabled person can do. It takes character and determination. For some, "getting back up" might involve doing something intellectual, others play sports. Since it was founded in 1976 by Brad Parks, wheelchair tennis has become the fastest growing disabled sport. Wheelchair tennis has become much more than an activity, it has become a goal, a way to push the limits, and a reason to compete.

Twenty five years ago, wheelchair tennis didn't even exist. Today, wheelchair tennis is played around the world on a professional basis with its own tournament circuit, ranking system and prize money.

Wheelchair Tennis in PEI Although small, the wheelchair community in PEI is definitely vibrant. With charismatic individuals paving the way, wheelchair tennis has a bright future in PEI. Able-bodied wheelchair division events are already present at two of PEI's top tournaments, the PEI Open and the Rob Bell Memorial. Wheelchair tennis is making its presence known around PEI.
